16.6.2010 French Consumers Boost Spending On Vod

Consumers in France are increasing their expenditure on video-on-demand content, which is expected to generate e150m ($183m; £124m) in revenues this year. GfK, the research firm, partnered with NPA Conseil, the consultancy, and MySkreen, the online broadcast and movie service, to assess the current state of the market.

Overall, the number of VOD transactions increased by 50% in value terms and by 70% in volume in the first quarter of 2010, as falling prices encouraged viewers to splash out.

At present, 95% of purchases are made via television sets rather than computers, with three-quarters of sales also being attributable to films. Documentaries and children's programs were among the other categories which proved popular over the period from January to March.
